I just thought I’d point out that it is April 26 and Fargo got 8.3 inches of snow last night. With that, most people here are depressed and just pissed off in general. My mutt, on the other hand, was excited about the snow. He rolled in it, did a victory lap around my car and ate it. It was though he hadn’t just seen snow two weeks ago. Last weekend was over 70 degrees and sunny, by the way.

With so many depressed people in this town and since I’ve been feeling down myself lately, I thought of how I used to write lists of all the things that made me happy. This sounds elementary, but it really does lighten my mood. Like writing goals, writing a list of what makes me happy serves a similar purpose. So I did this again today.

Part of my list looked like this:
snowflakes on eyelashes
sand in my hair
salt water on my skin
a photograph that turns out perfectly
playing piano with the windows open in the summer
that I met my boyfriend while playing rugby
winning in monopoly
watching my dog swim
eatin’ cake
getting up early
coffee talk
finishing a long run
the start of a three-day weekend
leaving for a trip before sunrise
the first day of a new marathon training program
Chinese takeout
girl scout cookies
playing fetch with my cat
Lake Superior in the winter (as seen in photo)

So, give it a try. Open up a blank email or document and write a list to yourself of everything you can think of that makes you happy. Take 20 minutes to do this, and write down the little things and more important things. Be as specific or as general as you want. Then save it so you’ll have it the next time you feel like a blizzard hit you in April. The list is even better if you share it with someone you love. But if you do this, don’t forget to include that person in your list!

I think this is a great idea for when you are blue, making a list of happiness, could definatley cheer you right up. Probably even make you laugh if some of the things are silly, at least make you smile and hey that is a step in the right direction. Heres to you I am wishing you sunny skies and warm weather.

That’s a great list, and I can testify to the good feeling that writing one brings. I do it every day, because I’m a feel-good junkie. :)

Excellent idea! I know that some on my list include the Dodgers scoring 10 runs in the first inning, covering the IWFL games, and surfable waves in warm water. So yeah, sand in my hair and salt water on my skin make my list also. The photo you have here is also beautiful - I can see why it brings happiness!

Winning in Monopoly makes me ridiculously happy. It’s almost stupid how happy that makes me.

And wow, snow in late April? I could not deal. Seriously.
