Ace is working on learning the commands bang, crawl, bucket, go long and roll over. The video is of Ace and I practicing (pathetically) “go long,” where Ace should run out in front for a long throw. This might seem easy, but it is very difficult for him to leave me while I still hold the ball. As you can see by the mutt running around like a crazed monkey and my terrible throw while I hold a camera, we have a lot of work to do. However, it is a big step for him to even go a few feet from me while I am holding a ball. So, we have made progress.
While working on this challenge, Ace and I have had many difficulties. After starting, I soon realized that learning five new commands in a month is too much for Ace, especially since they are not easy commands like sit and stay. I recommend teaching your dog two or three new commands in a month, maybe even one! Crawl, bang and roll over are all too related and he is getting bang and crawl confused. We have not started on roll over yet.
I am trying to work in really short periods of a minute or so at a time throughout the day so Ace doesn’t get bored. I lose my temper easily with him if he is not doing well and getting frustrated with a dog is the worst way to train him. So, working in short periods is best for Ace and I.
What commands are you teaching your dog?

AUGH! I forgot which commands we’re teaching Biggie! The problem is - there are some he’s got down pat already, but the main one we’re working on is “Where’s Daddy” - that’s not going so well. He’ll go to him if I start walking over and showing him where to put his head, but he hasn’t quite made the connection yet, which is odd because he’s usually really quick with new tricks. A similar command, “Bed” (go park your put on a piece of carpet), was pretty close to mastered in about 2 days, and now he does it from across the apartment.
And there are a few he’s already learned and are now part of the repertoire, but I can’t remember what they were. I think I’m losing my mind.
-crawl
-Where’s Daddy
-crate (go in your crate)
-off leash heel
-”bang” (thanks Lindsay)
We haven’t started “bang” yet and Where’s Daddy gets me a look like, “what do you want me to do?”

I know, it’s easy to lose patience. Hang in there, you’re doing a great job!

Maybe Ace is just a drama king and really working the playing dead thing like in the old movies where they are shot and it takes five minutes of dragging themselves (crawl) across the floor til they finally die (lay there from the bang) - you never know you may have a movie star!
