When I lived at my old hose I did day care for dogs and it was a good gig. They played all day in and went home happy and kept out of trouble. It was good for socialization for the day camper dogs and mine.

When Chels was younger I looked at one for Sundays when I work. The cost was $20 for the day. As it turned out I get to take Chels to work so it wasnt something I ended up needing... but given her love of eating my house bit by bit... I would reconsider it for the socialisation alone

Only a couple of my dogs would do well in daycare. Most would not... they get grumpy with other dogs in their space. And if Tatum went to dog day care, she'd like it more than me!

Oh Hell Yes! *grin*

I don't know what I'd do without the awesome doggy daycare near our house. It's $10 a day per dog or less if you buy a package. Trooper generally gets to go once a week, except when hubby's schedule has him home during the week like now.

Trooper LOVES ... L O V E S it. He can't wait to get there and gets in his special assigned kennel.

This daycare does it right IMHO. Each dog gets their own kennel with their picture and name (and special instructions - Trooper doesn't get raw hide). The entrance is password protected and you can drop off your dog as early as you want. Play time starts at 8 a.m. so they are in their kennel until that time.

They are supervised and so far the staff seems to be fairly knowledgeable in dog behavior. Of course, Trooper is one of the good dogs. LOL

I am really blessed to be able to have access to a clean, safe, and responsible daycare. I know that they all aren't.

Oh...and Trooper is tired when he gets home. A tired dog is a good dog!

I never had my mutt in daycare, mostly due to price. When I was in college, I could take her a lot of places. This included one of my jobs. She was quite the well traveled and socialized girl.

very interesting. I've never had to check into it, as I can go home for lunch and let my babies out, but you offer some good points for people who aren't so lucky. If you can afford it, it sounds like a good way for your pup to spend his day, rather than bored and sleeping and waiting for you to come home. It is a bit of a concern tho that if a fight would break out, can the people keep i under control.

price has always been the deterrent for me. also, they're a gossip ground for bad habits. Dog parks can be the same way, but at least you're there to correct or reward their behavior.

I think though it comes down to finding one you trust.

Biggie goes to day care, but he's been sort of suspended for not walking well on the leash when he is getting his relief walks. He plays well and loves it there, but I think he is testing the staff members and has figured out what he can get away with. So, you hit the nail on the head with the one negative that we are working on.

Our doggie day care has pick up and drop off (for dogs who are well-behaved on the leash when their humans aren't around - ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME, BIGGIE??) so the hours are just fine.
And once a week (Wednesdays) or twice (Tues/Thurs) is more than enough for this energetic 14-month old.

We couldn't survive in the city with 2 crazy careers without doggie day care.
