If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Many of the fat pet videos on YouTube have recieved 100,000 or more views. I found one with over a million views. If you’re interested, you can go search for them yourself because I don’t want links to those videos on my site.

There are even pet blogs that hold fat pet contests and ask readers to send in their fat pet pictures.

It’s obvious why it’s wrong to let a pet get dangerously obese. Fat pets are just as unhealthy as fat humans. They have little energy, tons of health problems and will die young. It’s wrong to post videos of fat people online just to make fun of them, and it’s wrong to use fat pets as entertainment as well. Sure, a grossly overweight beagle is kind of cute. But if he literally can’t roll over on his own, it’s not funny. And it’s certainly not OK to reward pet owners for this kind of animal cruelty by watching and laughing at the videos they make. It just encourages other bad pet owners to try to get the same kind of attention.

I know the people who read this blog would never let their pets get as overweight as the animals I’m talking about, so I don’t need to say any more. Thanks for taking good care of your pets!

I’m a fat pet, and I’m proud of it! Although I am a pot-bellied pig, and I’m not at all overweight. My parents would never let us get overweight. I’m told my Chihuahua sister was almost 20 pounds when she came to the family from a shelter, but she’s much healthier now.

We have the exact opposite of a problem. Our dog is too thin. She hates dry dog food and goes days without eating. We have tried just about everything. Other than being a picky eater, she is the best dog in the world — active and happy. It’s just concerning that she eats so little!

Agreed - a health issue is nothing to laugh about - in animals or humans! An animal that is allowed to get huge is just sad and definitely cruel. We are supposed to know better.

I don’t find entertainment in them either - the poor things are being abused with their diet and ignorant owners who are shortening their lives.

On a lighter note, we’ve given you an award, and you can pick it up at our blog, http://blog.ourdoglog.com

I don’t get the humor in that either. A while back I did a post on two brothers in England who were put on trial for letting their dog get too fat. That may be going too far, but it is definitely a form of animal abuse.

I dont find it funny either! I adopted a chunky monkey lab and know how hard it has been to get her to shed off some weight. There is nothing funny about it.. I am glad you didnt link the sites… they dont deserve your recognition.

I think the audience on youtube is often looking for controversy and entertainment at the expense of others ~ it is wrong to promote and support such videos ~ we need to pay attention to our pets and keep them healthy and fit..thanks for highlighting this issue!

Thanks, everyone. I think when people see things online, it’s easy to separate it from real life and forget that it’s a real animal living a very unhealthy life.

Want a sad story, my mother and I have Maltese/shitzuX’s, they are sisters. My dog has never been sick in its life. My mothers has been overfed since the day they got her, my mother phones my father if she is out for the day to remind him to give Bella her peanutbutter toast for morning tea etc I think part of it was not having children at home, they over indulged the wee thing…they never spoilt any dogs we had as children

The vet put her on a strict diet, my parents snuck behind each others back giving her treats… She got diabetes, she went blind, she was put down last week…Our dogs are only 5 yrs old… they killed that dog with ‘kindness’ I was so damn mad…
