Thanks St. Lover, I trust your opinions because you own more labs than anyone I know, and I know you are so good with your dogs.

Great start Lindsay. Keep it up. Getting him to realize the game is over is going to take you the most work. We still work on this one too.

Mum & Dad have been hand feeding me on my walks to get me to pay attention to them and NOT run off after all the polite dogs that just get on with their walk. Then they get me doing al obedience stuff, plus retrieveing my wubber. I'm kinda the opposite to Ace but the theory of doing what the human wants when the human wants it is the same... All the best with your training & thanks for dropping by my bloggy!
Love George

I agree - a calmer dog is a happier dog and helping him to be rid of an obsession is a good thing. You obviously care very much for him!

Biggie is the same way with his guarding, but because it's a little more scary than a ball obsession, people have NO PROBLEM at all with me trying to manage his guarding.

But I totally agree with you, helping your dog manage his fixation/obsession (hopefully there is only one) helps make the dog a happier dog overall. They are more relaxed, and when they don't have the thing they're fixated on, they're still able to be happy and to play in other ways. Who wouldn't want that?

Thanks Jan. That is a good way to look at it, as kindness. However, I do always welcome advice from others. I think all dog people like to give advice now and then. :)

I can understand why you want to get rid of this obsession. It's a kindness to your dog. Other people don't know Ace and should not be giving you advice.
