If you like to buy a lot online, then how about doing some shopping at a store that benefits homeless animals? I thought I’d bring your attention to The Animal Rescue Site Store. My friend Meredith works with Minn-Kota PAAWS, a nonprofit in Fargo that offers low-cost spays/neuters and other veterinary services. She is always looking for ways to help animals, and when she showed me this site, I knew I had to share it with others.

This is the perfect time to buy your holiday gifts early (that’s a hint) or to do a little shopping for yourself. I would totally wear a paw necklace, wouldn’t you? There is a section for clothing, books, Halloween stuff, jewelry, calendars and lots more. Gift cards are also available.

If you’d rather donate without buying anything, you can click for free to donate food to homeless animals. Sponsors pay to advertise on the site, and for each click the “Click here to give” button receives, money goes to programs that provide food and care for homeless dogs and cats, according to the site, which is a partner with Petfinder.

The Animal Rescue Site says that 38 million bowls of food were donated to animal shelters from January 2008 to June 2008 as a result of clicks and store purchases. That is a lot of food, but the site also says that about 27 million animals end up in shelters every year. That means a lot more giving is needed.

The only thing that is deceiving is when you do buy a product, only a percentage of the money goes to help animals. The rest pays for the site itself and other expenses.
