For us, in the past, it’s been about the dog’s quality of life. If there’s a good chance the dog will recover his QOL, then yes, we’ll do whatever it takes and put it on a credit card. But even if it’s relatively cheap but not likely to help much (or could even make it worse), then we tend to think a bit on it.

Thinking about these things is never fun, but usually necessary. I figure Lucy’s megaesophagus is gonna kill her someday, and I worry about her every time she start to regurgitate. We have no price limit on our dogs, though. But we do have a limit to how much pain or suffering they will have to endure. I think it’s a hard call and one that we will have to make when the time comes. Hopefully that is years away.

For six dogs and two cats we can’t afford insurance… it’s too expensive. But we have a savings account that we put money in each paycheck that we use for the animals health care when we need to. It helps a ton, plus we earn interest on it.

Yup – I’m getting some animal insurance for a new addition now. I’ve been fortunate and had a relative love my old dog so much that she forked out the thousands to save her years ago. Since then, I am always prepared.
