Ha! I am not sure. Perhaps just feeding him and earning his trust he now accepts you. Apparently the dogs have not earned his trust yet!

The feral cat may have had many unpleasant experiences with dogs chasing him, attacking him, barking or whatever. So he might never warm up to the dogs. But at least he goes on walks with the dogs along. That's great!

i have a feral black cat that has survived on his own
for two winters in texas. this year he has become a loving yard kitty that lets me pet him when i feed him-but he totally dominates my big blue-tick hound and my
collie dog...he goes on walks with me and my husband
and our dogs back in our pastures and will not allow the dogs to get near us----what has changed this cat's
mind from swiping at us to being our protector????

I hope Josh is sincerely flattered by the dueling for his attention! Great stories. They say that dogs have handlers, cats have employees...

Ha! Yeah, my old kitty (Freako) pretty much ignores Gus and swats at him if he sniffs for two long. My two young kitties believe that I brought Gus home to kill them but they are getting better with time.

Freako believes he is the king for sure. He's pretty funny but very clever. I did get him leash trained fairly easily. He's an indoor kitty and he figured out that if he walked on the leash he could eat plenty of grass.

I agree with chris. Cats are really masters. They are really the descendants of royalty. I don't own a cat but my friend does and her cat is the master!

good luck with yours!

You know the old saying, dogs have owners and cats have servants!

We are lucky with our cat, he is pretty big probably closing in on 25 pounds. With his size he has learned that he isn't quite as agile as a smaller cat would be. He isn't one to jump and climb on anything, the highest he jumps is onto the back of the couch.
