I thought I’d draw your attention to some of the dog events going on this month in Fargo. I can’t keep track of everything on my own, so if you know of any events that should be added to this list, let me know!
Furry Friends Pet Walk fundraiser for Adopt-A-Pet
When: 5:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Courts Plus Fitness Center (3491 University Dr. S.)
The cost for this event is $10. Bring your dog and get free goodies. The 3K walk will benefit Adopt-A-Pet of Fargo Moorhead, where I got my mutt Ace.
Adoption Days at PetSmart
When: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 13 and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 27 at the West Fargo PetSmart (1630 13th Ave. E.)
Meet some of 4 Luv of Dog Rescue’s dogs up for adoption. Some of these dogs are listed on my Fargo dog adoption page.
Dog dock jumping contest
When: Aug. 14 and 15 in the Scheels parking lot (1551 45th St. S.)
This event is part of the Midwest Waterfowl Fest. Events will be going on all weekend. Competitions for sporting dogs include:
K-9 Super Launch challenge: 6:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 14. Dogs compete for grabbing a bumper held above the pool. There is no entry fee for this event.
K-9 Super Air challenge: 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Aug. 15. Dogs compete for the longest jump from the edge of the dock into the water. Finals are at 5 p.m. There is an entry fee of $8 the day of the event or $5 if registered early. Ace will be participating in this event!
K-9 Vertical Leap challenge: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 15. Dogs compete to grab a bumper held above the ground. There is no entry fee for this event.
Retrieving seminar: Noon to 12:45 p.m. Aug. 15. This is a free event.
Practice times for the Super Air and Super Launch challenges: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 14
Big Paws in the Park
When: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 15 at the 45th Street dog park
Bring your big dog and also meet some of the giant breeds up for adoption from Bentley’s Buds Great Dane Rescue.
Microchip clinic
When: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 15 at the F-M Humane Society (1201 28th Ave. N.)
Cost for microchipping is $30 per pet.
Swim with your dog
When: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 17 at the South Park (2101 14th St. S.) and Northeast Park (1817 Eighth Ave. N.) wading pools in Moorhead.
Cost is $2 per dog, and all fees will benefit the Moorhead dog park.
Dog Days of Summer at the zoo
When: Aug. 22 and 23 at the Red River Zoo (4220 21st Ave. S.W.)
Planned activities for “Dog Days” have not been announced yet.
Adoption Days at Petco
When: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Fargo PetCo (1126 43rd St. S.W.) Stop by and meet some of the rescue dogs and cats up for adoption from Adopt-A-Pet.

I always thought there would be a huge market for a pet Olympics. Who wouldn’t want to see the gold medal finals for tennis ball retreiving, with a yellow lab up against a greyhound. And completely unpredicatble too. They might both woosh off after the ball and they might just sniff each other instead.
