My Perfect Pet review and giveaway – fresh, lightly cooked dog food

Note: I’ve partnered with My Perfect Pet to bring you this post. Read more to learn how you can win a case of dog food from My Perfect Pet.

My dog Ace tried some fresh food from a company called My Perfect Pet.

My Perfect Pet is a good option for those who want to feed their dogs real, fresh food but choose not to feed raw.

According to the company, the food is made with fresh, whole foods, with no by-products or preservatives. It is lightly cooked and then frozen.

While I prefer to feed my dog a raw diet, I also feed him a variety of cooked food for convenience, and My Perfect Pet is definitely a brand I would recommend. It’s very easy to feed, and I trust that it’s the best quality.

I stored the food in the freezer and defrosted Ace’s meals in the fridge a day or two in advance just as I would do with commercial raw food. My Perfect Pet comes in 8-ounce bars, and Ace needed about 3 bars per day.

More about My Perfect Pet

Dog food from My Perfect Pet is made with the same quality of products you’d find in a restaurant or grocery store, according to the company’s founder, Karen Scoggins.

The food is available online through its web site or at various retail locations. Since the company is based out of San Diego, it’s available in many of the stores near me!

According to Scoggins, the company never uses any fillers or processed ingredients of any kind, “only fresh, real whole foods that are easily digested by the dog’s system.”

The standard blends are 100 percent complete and balanced, she said. So, there’s no need to add supplements or digestive aids to the diet.

She also said “picky dogs” love the food!

According to My Perfect Pet, the food is:

Is there anything not so good about My Perfect Pet?

  • For me, the only real issue with this food is the cost.

Based off of the prices on the company’s web site, it would cost about $270 to feed my 70-pound dog My Perfect Pet for one month.

I know that’s not something the majority of dog owners can afford.

Personally, I’m going to go with a raw brand if I’m going to spend that much, but a lot of dog owners have no interest in feeding raw so My Perfect Pet might be a good option for them.

“We take no shortcuts when it comes to quality,” Scoggins said, when I asked about the price.

“If you consider what it costs to purchase these ingredients and prepare them at home using the same FDA food safety standards that we use, plus add the necessary supplements to make them 100 percent complete and balanced, you find the cost is about the same.”

  1. That stuff looks great! Yikes on the cost, though. I suppose it would be much cheaper for my 12-pound dog who will only eat a 1/2 can of dog food a day. I’d love to try some!

  2. My Perfect Pet sounds interesting. Right now, I just feed my dogs grain free dog food but have been thinking about trying a raw food diet for them. I think My Perfect Pet would be a nice transition to a raw food diet. Amy and Storm would like it because they like all things food. (They are so not picky.)

  3. Moo loves the freeze-dried raw bits in her current food, I’m sure this would be a big hit! She’s 11 pounds, so this could be an option for her. She’d love to win and get the chance to try it!

I’m not going to try to win because that would not be fair since I won the last giveaway, but I am going to look in to my perfect pet. I’ve been feeding Ottis Honest Kitchens grain free dehydrated meals once a day and raw food blend twice a day and this sounds like it might be a better option than the dehydrated lunches.

I’m not sure, but the cost is about $135 for a box with 42 bars. Each bar is 8 ounces.

My 70-pound dog needs 3 bars per day (about 90 bars per month). So, he would need two boxes per month, bringing us to about $270.

      1. OK, 42 bars. I got one sack with one bar from our local pet store that will carry it. That one bar fed my 20 lb Boston one day (1/2 twice a day). So 42 bars would be 42 days? Hmmm. I buy 4 lbs of kibble that lasts about a month and costs $15.00. Not really sure this will compute.

  5. Ace is such a great model 🙂 We’re rotating our pups’ food every 3-4 months for the sake of variety and to avoid allergies. We always feed a grain-free, high quality kibble and mix in pumpkin puree as well as some fruit and/or veggie toppers. Lately we’ve also been sprinkling some turmeric on the pups’ meals due to its anti-cancer properties.
My Perfect Pet Food sounds like a great food – unfortunately, we wouldn’t be able to afford feeding it due to its high cost…

  6. Jake would like to try My Perfect Pet Food. Jake, who can be a fussy eater, likes to have variety in his diet so I am always looking to try different high quality food for him. This food looks good and I am really impressed the company offers a custom formulated personal formula.

  7. I would love to try some, but I’m not in the contiguous United States. That being said, we feed a high end kibble (Canine Caviar) and I’ve been experimenting with adding a raw meal once a week. CV and I had a great response from D.O.G with Nature’s Variety Raw Patties. I recently bought Honest Kitchen Verve and Missy and Aeon turned their noses up at it. So I might go back to getting the patties and medallions. But like you the cost is so great that it’s great for a once a week meal but feeding it all the time would be way too expensive. Between three dogs and a horse, money does not grow on trees. 🙂

  8. My perfect pets consist of several rescue dogs. They would love to try this — they are grateful for any and all treats and quality food! I’d love to be able to treat them with this food!

  9. My pups eat raw but it would be nice to try a quick option like My Perfect Pets or for boarding or training circumstances when someone is looking after your pet and does not want to mess with raw.

  10. There are so many concerns about where our pet’s food comes from – and how it has been processed. I’m sure that my furbabies (Rufus & Little Dog) would enjoy eating My Perfect Pets – and I can be happy serving it to them – knowing it’s made from quality ingredients!

  11. We love your blog!

I’m not too familiar with the brand, but I’m very intrigued by the limited number of ingredients and the health and wellness focus of the company. Pawprint has two dogs (Apple and Bowser) who would love to try My Perfect Pet! Apple is a picky eater and Bowser has some skin allergies so this may a viable option for both. Check us out if you have time – we are a new digital pet records company.

  12. I am trying to find new foods for my cattle dog mutt. So far we have been doing Costco kibble supplemented with home cooked eggs, but I want to try other (affordable) options. The choices are a little overwhelming for a new dog owner though! I am not sure where to start.

  13. I have 5 Collies. I have one that remains thin regardless of different foods and additives. Yes, has been vet checked. He does do agility, though not running all the time. I would like to try this different kind of diet for him.

  14. I have always felt that feeding premium food actually saves money in the long run. A great diet = a healthier pet and fewer expensive vet visits. My little Pug Jelly is always on the lookout for yummy and nutritious food, and My Perfect pet sounds, well, PERFECT!

  15. My border collie Breeze would absolutely love this!! I am always trying to find ways to feed him as healthy as I can but it is all so expensive! He is also very picky about dry food and seems to love all wet food so I always have to add water to his dry food. This would be perfect for him, I would just never be able to afford it on a regular basis! It would be great to be able to feed him something that he will actually love for once though!

  16. Jake was the happy winner of this dog food. As he can be a finicky eater I am very happy to say that he LOVES this food! As he has aged, he is about 15 years old now, his excitement for mealtime has diminished. But now with this food he is showing interest while i prepare his bowl and even seems to let me know he would like more.

  17. I just picked up a pack of food for my dog this morning. The sales person spoke very highly of this product. She suffers from severe allergies. I’ve tried everything. I’m excited because I know this will be good for her. I’m hoping it will help.

  18. Hey-Wo! I’m Bailey! I am a two-day year old Brussels Griffon, and I would like to try your dog food because it’s REAL FOOD! I love REAL FOOD. My Mom has to cook real food for me, so if I like your My Perfect Pet food, it’ll give my busy Mom a break from cooking. Thank you!

  19. We adopted Luke, a Maltese, 4 years ago when his age was guessed to be 14. He had renal failure and was the pickiest eater. He is now about 18 and has been picky UNTIL NOW. He just LOVES the Low Phosphorus Lamb and asks for more no matter how much I give him to begin with. It is so good to see him really enjoying his food.

  20. We have been making our dog food and are tired of the mess and time it takes to shop, mix everything together and cook. This looks very similar to the same food we have been making with the added plus of more nutrients and seems more scientific. We gave our dog a sample and she loved it.
