Our foster dog Lana, learning basic obedience

Lana is learning “sit” means “sit and remain sitting.” 🙂

She’s learning to lie down and stay on a dog bed while we eat or watch TV. (If she gets up, I just keep putting her back.)

She’s learning to lie down and stay while I get her food.

Lana (her name is “Robin” with the rescue) is up for adoption with Labs & More Rescue in San Diego.

A poem – for my foster dog

Do you keep adopting the same “type” of dog?

Are any of you fostering a dog right now? What are you working on with him/her?

Are you tempted to keep her yet Lindsay?

She has the sweetest face. How wonderful of you to not only foster, but to teach obedience!

Good job learning to sit, Lana! :-) We're working on socialization with kids. Our foster Chi mix grew up in a shelter so I bet she's never lived with kids before. The first time my friend brought her little children over, a few months ago, Shari kept hiding and barking. Today, the children came to visit again and Shari was super cool around them. I'm so proud of her! I must have taken her over hundred times to school with me, my son often walking her, and it paid off. So happy! Also, today we've met with the rest of the family who is thinking about adopting Shari (they have a two and a five year old boys), and the meeting went great. Shari was totally cool with running kids and actually licked the older boy's hand and let the toddler pet her. She is not a scared dog, but needed more kids in her life and I think that our family was a good choice for her foster home, because we have a pretty dog savy child and that helped Shari a lot. Now, our personal dog is still a disaster, ha ha. But your advice with using the leash worked really well: we walked in the house in squished little circles and practiced Place a few times. He's sleeping now on his bed, finally calm. Good luck with Lana! It's nice to see improvements. :-)
