You’ll Want to Do This to Help Rescue Dogs in Your Area

Top prize is $500 donation to the ‘best’ rescue or shelter

Note: I’ve partnered with Dog Nation to bring you this post.

If you’re like me, you’re almost OBSESSED with wanting to do more to help dogs in need.

You want to foster. You want to donate more than you can afford. You want to adopt when it’s not realistic. Your spouse has created some sort of “limit” on the number of pets you can have.

Plus, you probably want to help a specific rescue group or shelter that you care about and can relate to vs. donating to a large, national organization you may not trust.

Well, here’s an easy way to help!

Take 3 minutes and nominate your favorite rescue group so it can win $500 in Dog Nation’s Best Friend’s Friend Contest.

All you have to do is put in the name and web site of the group you wan to nominate, plus your own contact info. It’s easy!

It takes literally 3 minutes.

Then come back and let me know in the comments what group you nominated.

More about the Best Friend’s Friend Contest

The Best Friend’s Friend Contest is a contest where you can win a $500 donation to your favorite rescue group or shelter.

Best Friends Friend Contest

Nominations are being accepted now through Dec. 31, and voting takes place in January and February. You can vote once per day while voting is open. The group with the most votes by the end of February will win a $500 donation. Plus, there are second and third place prizes.

The Best Friend’s Friend contest was created by Rodney Blow, who maintains the web site DogNation.net. This is the contest’s second year.

The contest is designed so dog lovers can nominate and vote on the shelters or rescues they believe are most deserving.

The nomination process is really simple. You just enter the rescue or shelter’s name and web site, along with your own name and email and a sentence or two about why you’re nominating that group.

The shelter or rescue you nominate must have a web site and must be a registered non-profit organization, typically a 501(c)(3).

The prizes – $900 total!

First place: $500 donation, a permanent link from DogNation.net and the digital gold medal (above) for displaying on the rescue’s own web site.

Second place: $300 donation, permanent link from Dog Nation’s historic winners page and a silver medal.

Third place: $100 donation, permanent link and bronze medal.

Yellow Lab mix for adoption

I personally nominated the group I volunteer with, Labs & More Rescue of San Diego. This is a group that rescues Labs, Lab mixes and other large dogs from kill shelters in southern California and finds them loving homes.

Which group will you nominate? Let me know in the comments!

I know some of you nominated your favorite groups last year, and one of them even won second place! So, this really is a way you can make a difference, and I encourage all of you to make your nominations.

I' d like to know more about my dog and his language. It will help me understand more about what my dog's body language is trying to tell me!

I nominated Oregon Dog Rescue in Tualatin, OR. We adopted our two dogs from them, and I've always been so impressed with the care they show every dog in their program, no matter how "adoptable" they are. Thanks for letting us know about this opportunity!

Cool! I nominated Little Red Dog. They use the same vet as the cat rescue I volunteer with and I've always liked them. A few months ago they had a really fun community event with a raffle and a "pack walk" and I think my dog had a good time.

Oh good to hear! I have not heard of that group. Sounds like they're doing a lot of good things.
