Note: If you have a mixed-breed dog you’d like to see featured on my site, send information and photos to Lindsay@thatmutt.com. The first featured mutt is Sebastian, a dalmatian/springer spaniel mix owned by Sabrina Packard in Orrington, Maine. Here’s what Sabrina had to say about her mutt:
We were blessed with a pup four years ago. Our dog is a perfect match of English springer spaniel and dalmatian. H ...

Now that “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” is in theaters giving plenty of free advertising to puppy mills, pet shops and breeders just in time for the holidays, I thought it was time for a Chihuahua profile.
Unfortunately, many people get this breed for the wrong reasons or without thinking it through. Just because a bag of dog food would last a Chihuahua months doesn’t mean the vet bills, training classes ...

I have a hard time telling the difference between a lhasa apso (pictured) and a shih tzu, so I figured other people might not know the difference either. They are obviously closely related, but the main difference between the two bree ...
The petit basset griffon Vendeen (small, low, rough-coated Vendeen) is a friendly dog, but it is not very common in the United States. PBGVs are often mistaken as mutts because of their shaggy appearance and awkward bodies. But PBGVs have been around for a long time. They are scent hounds, originally bred in France for hunting rabbits during the 1700s, according to The Encyclopedia of Dog Breeds by D. Caroline Coile. ...

I love American Staffordshire terriers, also known as the American pit bull terrier or “pitbull.” With so many pitbulls sitting in shelters across the country (more than 9,000 on Petfinder alone), I thought I’d share how great these dogs are. My next dog just might have to be a pitbull. The guy in this photo is Matty, and he needs a home. (9/21/09 update: Matty has been adopted!)

Newfoundlands just might be the most gentle dogs there are. Before I started my Fargo pet sitting and dog running business, I used to pet sit for a Newfoundland named Wallee. Wallee (pictured below, left) didn’t realize his size and liked to cuddle up next to me on the couch with his head in my lap. He was basically a giant puppy. He loved all people and all animals, typical of his breed.

People always ask if my mutt is part great dane. I was at a dog show in Fargo last weekend and saw black great danes that looked exactly like a large version of my mutt, and now I’m convinced he is part dane. It explains his smooth, shiny coat and long legs. If you haven’t been over to Danes Down Under, check it out. Chelsea is a black great dane who looks almost identical to Ace.
