My mutt Ace drives me crazy if he hasn’t had enough physical and mental exercise. He needs to run around and play, but he also needs work to do. Mental challenges help him get rid of pent-up energy, fight boredom and leave him tired!

Ace visited a kids’ baseball game during day four of my 30-day challenge to take my dog to 30 new places. The boys’ baseball game was distracting to Ace because there were balls flying everywhere and he is a ball nut. Today was day three of my 30-day challenge to take my mutt to 30 new places. Today we sort of hit up three in one, by walking down a new street and going to two garage sales on that street. Ace wore his backpack and pinch collar, so he was on his best behavior. He marched right up to a box and picked out this alligator for 25 cents. I’m so proud of my mutt for being frugal like me.

Ace has been responding well to treats on our 20-minute walks. He will heel with his regular collar or with no leash as long as no other people or dogs are in sight. Of course, if he sees another dog, he wants to run and greet. He ...
Today was the second day of my experiment to walk Ace every day. Since it is really wet and muddy out, he did not get a chance to run today. His walk was his only exercise, so we went for two 20-minute walks, and he wore his dog backpack filled with some books.
