I never put too much emphasis on a dog’s breed. That’s one reason why I love mutts. I try not to judge a dog by his breed or mix of breeds but on his individuality. At the same time, so much about a dog is influenced by his breeding, intentional or not. I have never seen a dog with as much retrieving instinct as my mutt Ace. He will retrieve anything – cardboard boxes, candy bar wrappers, hair ties, small trees ...

Here are the best outdoor dog photos that were submitted this week. This was the last week to officially submit photos for this contest. If there is interest, people can still submit their best outdoor dog photos to me at Lindsay@thatmutt.com, and I will publish them on Sundays when I have enough photos. Feel free to continue submitting photos, but make sure to put Outdoor Dog Photos as the subject. I get a lot of em ...

Note: If you have a mixed-breed dog you’d like to see featured on my site, send information and photos to Lindsay@thatmutt.com. The first featured mutt is Sebastian, a dalmatian/springer spaniel mix owned by Sabrina Packard in Orrington, Maine. While living out her last days in a ...

This is Sophie’s blogging debut. Sophie is now 2 years old, but look at her as a puppy. There are not many dogs cuter than a springer spaniel puppy. She belongs to my parents, and Ace and I visited her last weekend. Ace and Sophie have a great time whenever they are together. English springer spaniels are very friendly, affectionate dogs. They were bred in England during the 1800s to hunt game, mostly birds, ac ...
