The Del Mar Dog Beach

The best part about owning a dog (in my opinion) is going on adventures. Ace and I are always looking for new areas to explore.

One of our favorite places is the Del Mar Dog Beach, just a mile down the road from our apartment.

It’s an off-leash beach from Labor Day through Memorial Day (dogs have to be leashed in the summer).

My parents flew out to visit us in February, and here are some of the photos they took at the beach. Since we live so close to this beautiful place, we often take it for granted. Having visitors here from Wisconsin was a good reminder how lucky we are! On weekday mornings, we often have the entire beach to ourselves!

My mom wrote a book

I also want to let you know my mom Nancy has written a book about how to mentally prepare for chemotherapy.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, and she started a blog called Nancy’s Point where she writes about breast cancer and loss. She also writes about her dogs!

Her book “Getting Past the Fear: A Guide to Help You Mentally Prepare for Chemotherapy” is available in print and ebook format, and she is giving away 10 copies on her blog.

The book is not just for those facing chemotherapy. It’s a great resource for caregivers as well. I’m so proud of my mom, and she would love it if you visited her blog or let people know about her book.

That’s it, and have a great weekend!

Where are you and your dog going to explore?

Our special treat is Chugach State Park. Its not a Dog Park and the dogs have to be on leads in the beginning but there's some great views of Anchorage and its quite peaceful. The pups totally know when we are going up there and get really excited. Its so nice to see them running and smelling and enjoying life. That beach looks wonderful!

Sounds like a great place to let the dogs run and play!

I love exploring new areas with our dogs too. I took the puppies (and Rodrigo and Sydney) to the airport trails for the first time today and I swear that every now and again, the puppies would turn to me with excitement on their face and show me their gratitude. We had the best walk. It's not easy walking my pack but today, it was amazing.

Love Del Mar, I lived there quite a while ago and would hang out with my Moca. She loved it. I'd lay on the beach and use her as my pillow (she was a 55 lb pound-hound-shepherd-thing). So glad you & Ace are enjoying it! Me & the girls (and hubby) will come visit soon. Although, Allie can't be off leash - we'll never see her again!

Dog Beach is so much fun! We've never taken Rita there (she's not a fan of places with a LOT of dogs) but we used to go there a lot and watch the dogs. Used to run on the beach and turn around there. We'd always stop and watch the dogs for a while. Congrats to your mom on writing a book and hope she is fully recovered and feeling great!

Yes, it's often pretty busy so I understand it's not the best for some dogs. I kind of like when the dogs have to be leashed in the summer.

Mom loves adventures with us. Today she took all three of us to the dog park for the first time after I had my vet visit. We all had a blast and it went really well. Taking three of us is not easy with our different ages and quirks, but it worked. Another adventure down...next up...road trip to Vegas! I will have my mom take a look at your mom's blog and book. Hope she is doing alright.
