I’ve been looking for a good, natural pet stain remover for a couple of reasons.

First of all, my pets are gross (obviously).

I have a 70-pound Lab mix and two cats, and because of them my carpets have been through a lot.

If the cats aren’t puking up hairballs, Ace is flinging drool everywhere, tracking in sand or vomiting up the water he just chugged.

But other than the fact that my pets are disgusting, I also wanted to try a natural pet stain remover because I’m allergic to the chemicals found in most cleaning products. For that reason, I usually just clean with white vinegar and water, which works OK.

More about Oliver Rocket’s pet stain & odor remover

Oliver Rocket Pet Products sent me a bottle of its pet stain and odor remover to try.

The product can be used on carpet and upholstery, as a detergent for carpet-cleaning machines and as a detergent in a mop bucket for hard floors, according to the company. It is designed to remove both stains and odors, although I only used it for removing stains.

According to Oliver Rocket Pet Products, the cleaner works by getting to the root of the trouble area for a “deep, permanent clean.”

Here’s a diagram to show how it works:

To remove a stain, you simply shake the bottle well and then pour a generous amount directly to the stain, according to the directions. The disc nozzle supposedly helps the cleaner reach deep into the carpet pad (vs. a spray bottle, that only gets the surface). Next, you work it into a lather with a cloth or paper towel.

I let the product sit for about five minutes on the stain, and then I soaked it up with paper towels. You may need to go through the process a couple of times for extra nasty stains and odors.

According to Oliver Rocket Pet Products:

2. It’s made of naturally based active ingredients.

3. It features a disc cap instead of a spray nozzle for more effective deep cleaning.

4. The odor remover is made with high-end ingredients.

5. It is non-toxic, safe for the environment and safe around kids and pets.

What I think about the pet stain remover

The stain remover really made a difference for cleaning up after my cats, which was my main concern. It was really easy to use and only took about five minutes to clean up the old stains. I highly recommend the product to other pet owners.

Pet stain remover for catsI also appreciate that the product does not have a strong fragrance or a strong chemical smell. It does have a mild scent, but most people probably want cleaning products to have a slight scent.

You may remember the black light flashlight for pet stains I reviewed previously from Oliver Rocket. When paired together, the flashlight and the odor remover can help you get rid of those gross pet stains for good.

The blacklight flashlight helped me find numerous old stains from my cats that I couldn’t see otherwise. I then used the stain remover directly on those spots. There are still a couple of tough stains I haven’t been able to completely remove, but I can only see those with the black light.

What’s not so good

The only thing I don’t like about the odor remover is that the ingredients are not listed on the label. This doesn’t bother me too much because I trust the company when it says the product is non-toxic and safe for use around kids and pets.

I asked for the specifics on the ingredients for the sake of this review, and the company was able to provide a general idea of the ingredients, which include:

  • fragrance
  • surfactant (to clean the stains)
  • bacteria cultures (these remain behind and naturally eliminate the residual organics left in the carpet fibers and padding)

What type of pet stain are you constantly cleaning up?

would love to get in on the drawing if its not too late! I need to deep clean my rug from urine stains from ace when we first got him and nothing helped so far! I might have to order it thanks for the post!

I second the vomit stains sentiment! We have a few "small" spots on our living room carpet as our 70-lb dog sometimes gets too excited and will run around and afterwards throw up some water/bile. The stains are next to impossible to take out.

Thanks for this! We have our carpets cleaned 2x yearly, but there was one stain they couldn't get and I haven't been successful either so I'll give this a try. We also have a new stain (from bully sticks, probably) on a rug that I'd like to clean up too.

I think I need to have ours professionally cleaned once a year or so too.

I have an arsenal of cleaning products, but that flashlight is something I need/am terrified to try! Our biggest problem is barf. :( His entire life, Lucas has been a barfer. His biggest thing is if he has an empty stomach - say, we dare sleep past 7 am on a Saturday morning! - he throws up a big pile of stomach acid. It's so gross. And while we have wood floors, he's only comfortable barfing on the rugs...

Might want to talk to your vet about acid reflux and possible dietary issues with poor Lucas. It's a very common problem and sometimes anti-reflux medication can help. My dogs have issues with empty stomachs too, and it seems to have a cycle to it where it flares up, and a little Pepcid helps break the cycle.

Haha! So gross. Our biggest problem is also barf so I hear ya! :)

I need to find a really good odor remover. I have kind of given up on stains in my house at this point with animals and 2 kids, but as long as it doesn't smell I'll be good.
