Brand New GPS Pet Tracker – Guardian Orb + Giveaway

My weimaraner loves to run ahead of me on the trails. He’s not a courageous dog and always keeps me in sight. He darts ahead about 100 yards (oh so brave!), and then stops to make sure I’m following.

But as most of you are well aware, some of our dogs just can’t help themselves around birds, rabbits, squirrels or whatever it might be.

I do my best at finding the balance between responsibility and giving my dog the freedom to be a weim. There is risk to that, and my dog definitely takes off into the brush in search of birds. (Sorry, birds.)

Guardian Orb is a brand-new pet tracker that has taken all the good of the current GPS pet trackers while also overcoming the limitations (no monthly fees or subscriptions). It will be available in July 2018. December 2019 update: Guardian Orb has not yet released the GPS tracking product. You can read updates on their Indiegogo page here.

GPS Pet Tracker – Guardian Orb

When my dog bounds ahead into the brush, I know it’s only a matter of 30 seconds before I see his derpy face re-appear.

But there’s always some risk in allowing any dog off leash. Maybe the dog takes off a little further than usual and gets confused. Maybe the wind somehow disorients him and he goes the wrong way.

Unfortunately, almost everyone knows a dog who has gotten lost. If it hasn’t happened to you, I’m sure you know a friend or family member who has lost a dog for at least a few minutes. It’s terrifying!

Today I’m going to tell you a bit more about the new GPS pet tracker called Guardian Orb.

Guardian Orb GPS pet tracker for dogs and cats

With the product, a small “Orb” attaches to your pet’s collar and the Guardian Orb app gives you access to your pet’s real-time location from your phone, tablet or computer. There are no monthly fees or subscriptions, and it has a tracking radius up to 10 miles.

Here is a video we made about Guardian Orb:

Features of the Guardian Orb GPS pet tracker:

  • Attaches to your dog’s collar (or a cat or other pet’s collar)
  • Tracking radius up to 10 miles
  • NO monthly fees or subscriptions!
  • Offers advanced geo-location technology
  • Smallest pet tracking device available, according to the company
  • Tracks your pet in real time
  • Track from any smartphone, tablet or desktop
  • Stationary and portable “base” options for home or travel
  • Private secure network
  • Waterproof
  • Uses radio signal, cellular GSM and GPS tracking

Cons:

I have not tested Guardian Orb yet because it’s not available until July.

Guardian Orb is trying to be the best pet tracker possible and as you can see there are a lot of benefits.

The only con I can see is that with all technology there are limitations. It could be human error where you forget to charge the battery or it could be that you’re hiking in a remote area where you thought you’d have cell reception but you don’t.

Guardian Orb is really trying to offer the best product and service possible though by using radio signal, cellular GSM and GPS tracking.

More info on how the Guardian Orb pet tracker works

The Guardian Orb attaches to your dog’s collar, and then you pair it with the “base” unit – either a “Guardian Go” for travel and adventures or a “Guardian Home.” The “Orb” is 1.2” in diameter. You can use multiple Orbs with one base unit if you have multiple dogs.

Guardian Home: Connects to your internet router and tracks your pet from home up to 10 miles.

It pairs with any smartphone, tablet or desktop through wifi or cellular. It combines Radio Signal, Cellular GSM and GPS tracking so there are three ways to find your pup.

Guardian Go: The Guardian Go is what I picture being most helpful for my dog Remy for our hiking and camping adventures. This is a portable base station that fits in your pocket or pack and pairs with your mobile device via Bluetooth. The tracking radius moves along with you, tracking up to ten miles with a 16-hour battery life.

The Guradian Go base unit is 3” by 2.5” by 1.5”. Like the Guardian Home, this also combines Radio Signal, Cellular GSM and GPS tracking. And remember, there are no monthly fees or subscriptions.

You can also use the Guardian Orb for other pets like cats, horses or any pet that has something you can attach the “Orb” too.

The Guardian Orb is a hoax. I contributed to the Indiegogo campaign on March 20, 2018. The July due date came and went and we heard nothing until November 1 and we were told there were manufacturing problems and we were offered a full refund of our contributions. I have sent multiple requests for a refund of my contribution and have received nothing in response. All of the contributors to the Guardian Orb campaign are disappointed that we haven't received the product we believed in enough to support and now angry that the company's promise of refunds has also gone unfulfilled.
