Homemade, natural dog treats – Dachshing Dog Bakery

I wanted to find a local dog bakery where I could order healthy dog treats and possibly even a doggy birthday cake for my mutt Ace. I just don’t trust commercial dog food companies to provide my dog with healthy snacks. Who would?

I thought it would be cool to find a local dog bakery that could even ship dog treats to my blog readers all over the country, not just the Fargo area.

I am so happy I found the Dachshing Dog Bakery & Pawtique!

What is Dachshing Dog Bakery?

Homemade natural dog treats! The Dachshing Dog Bakery & Pawtique is a home business owned by a woman named Val in Barnesville, Minn. Val makes the dog treats herself using all-natural ingredients and ships the goodies all across the United States. She even makes cupcakes and cakes for dogs as well as natural treats for cats.

Val is currently the dog mom of five dogs – two goldens, a golden lab, a black lab mix and a miniature dachshund.

“They all give the paw of approval for Dachshing Dog Bakery treats, having been my initial testers before we sent out samples to many other dogs of all sizes and breeds,” Val said.

The idea for the dog bakery occurred to Val after the passing of her mother’s beloved dachshund “Bun” who loved eating vegetables, especially green beans. Val now feels that Bun is “dashing around with his wings as he waits at the rainbow bridge, giving wags of approval for this business.”

All-natural dog treats

Val has spent years baking for dogs. She said she has a constant drive to seek out healthy alternatives to many of the commercially branded pet treats often made from wheat flour, sugar and salt. She was propelled to create dog treat recipes free of wheat, corn and soy.

“By feeding your dog all-natural treats, particularly our treats, you’re feeding a dog treats with less fillers and without the additives like sugars and salts that can attribute to certain health issues like high blood pressure,” she said.

One of Val’s dogs has an intolerance to wheat and suffers from excessively itchy skin if exposed to wheat in food or treats.

“So many humans suffer from the intolerance to wheat, and it’s not uncommon for a dog to have the same issue,” Val said.

She continues to seek information regarding the latest studies and what’s out there regarding the good and bad surrounding dog food and dog treats. She is working on a few grain-free recipes for treats, currently offering a grain-free version of her Peanut Butter Carob Dreams.

“Treats from Dachshing Dog Bakery are treats that you can feel good about giving your furry family members,” Val said.

Which dog treats would you feed your dog?

Homemade natural dog treatsDog treats from Dachshing Dog Bakery are formulated with all-natural ingredients, many from organic resources, Val said.

To give you an idea, I thought I’d compare the ingredients of Val’s Dachshing Dog treats to three commercial brands.

Which treats will you buy your dog?

Peanut Butter Carob Dreams from Dachshing Dog BakeryBrown rice flour, natural peanut butter, carob powder, ground flax seed, water

Bil Jac liver treats: chicken liver, chicken, chicken by-product meal, corn, glycerin, high fructose corn syrup, wheat flour, propylene glycol, phosphoric acid, salt, calcium propionate, potassium sorbate, BHA and citric acid, iron oxide (ingredients listed at Petco.com)

Beggin’ Strips from Purina: Ground wheat, corn gluten meal, wheat flour, ground yellow corn, water, sugar, glycerin, soybean meal, meat, hydrogenated starch hydrolysate, bacon fat, salt, phosphoric acid, sorbic acid, calcium propionate, natural and artificial smoke flavors, added color, choline chloride (ingredients listed at Epinions.com)

Hmm … I think I’ll go with the first option. I’ll even admit I sampled some of the Dachshing Dog treats myself, and they were not bad!

My dog Ace was very excited he got to sample many flavors from the bakery. Val made him a variety pack with flavors including peanut butter, sweet potato, berry and banana.

I ordered Ace a package of the Apple Cinnamon Yapples and the Peanut Butter Carob Dreams because apples and peanut butter are two of his favorite goodies. No surprise that all the treats were a big hit at our house!

Cupcakes for dogs and other products

The Dachshing Dog Bakery surprised Ace with his very own peanut butter pupcake for his sixth birthday! Needless to say, he loved his pupcake (see video below)! That beautiful little cake was gone in two gulps, leaving Ace drooling for more. I guess it was good! I feel bad I didn’t cut it up for him first!

Other products at Dachshing Dog Bakery & Pet Pawtique include dog toys, odor neutralizers, cat treats, a special line of collars called “Rescue Me” and more! Val said it’s important to her to give back to animals in need so when you order a “Rescue Me” collar, Dachshing Dog will donate $2 to a local animal rescue.

“Getting to know the dogs and cats we are serving and also giving back to our community is a big part of our identity,” Val said. She truly values her clients.

Below are some of the dog treats Ace received from Dachshing Dog Bakery:

Pupcakes (cupcakes for dogs!)

Heart-shaped Peanut Butter Carob Dreams (peanut butter and carob dog treats)

Apple Cinnamon Yapples (apple cinnamon dog treats – yum!)

So cute! I loved when the cut-out dog shape fell off the biscuit and he had a momentary pause of "What did I drop?!" :)
