Signs of fall
The Midwest – especially North Dakota – has these subtle signs of fall.
They begin in July with the grasshoppers. And the grass slowly browns.
The morning light soon changes. Crickets are present. The geese gather.
I see my breath. Smell the frost.
Southern California has its own signs, if I look.
Cool nights, hot days. A child runs to school.
I chase the evening sun.
A few stars, some yellow, needing to come down.
