Ace and Beamer

These two have been sharing beds a lot lately, like almost all the time. This is the first winter they’ve done this in 9 years.

I could write about how sweet this is and how they’re friends.

Truth is, sometimes Ace lets out a ferocious snarl as Beamer approaches.

Sometimes Beamer smacks Ace right on the nose, stares him in the eyes and takes the bed.

Sometimes Ace moves away. Sometimes he holds his own. Sometimes he whines, looking to me to shoo that cat out of the way.

And sometimes they accept each other and they snuggle close. Or Ace pretends not to notice Beamer.

Or they’re just cold and old and this is the agreement they’ve come to after 9 years.

I try not to get involved. We have three pet beds and they both want this one.

They can work it out.

Hi Lindsay,

I have a very weird pet dynamic in my house. I have 2 dogs and 1 cat. My older dog, an 11 year old Lab, absolutely hates the cat and refuses to go anywhere near her. My other dog, a 1 year old Jack Russell, absolutely loves the cat and they cuddle all the time.

We once tried to take a family photo with the 3 of them together in front of the Christmas tree. It took us about 2 hours to FINALLY get a good shot of them all.

Some day they will all get along. Some day...

Cold and old...how sad! Reminds me of Zoey. Well...the old part. I think she finally gave up hating Gina just because she got too old to care. Still...I'd rarely find them cuddling together because Gina is so attached to her pittie pals. Speaking of which...they are all in a pile next to me right now...haha. I actually wonder why they don't get annoyed with each other they are such space invaders. Gina even purrs when the dogs sit or step on her.

PS: Ace's eye roll in that picture is perfect.

Missy and D.O.G. have been sharing the same bed on and off for the last month. Personally, I think she likes his bed better... However, he's not the best at judging space in a car or crate, so you have to watch them at the groomers and in the car, especially if D.O.G. gets excited. Too cute that yours are starting to "share."

Bert is real mean to Katie. He tries to steal her food while she is still eating, he bites her in the tail, he is a real nuisance!
