That Mutt Life: What We’ve Been Up To – February

Just a little post on what we’ve been up to lately.

I really enjoy reading personal updates from other bloggers. You can read my past update from December here. I totally skipped January. So, onto February …

My parents visited

They live in Wisconsin, just an hour’s drive or so from Minnesota’s Twin Cities. Let’s just say they seemed to enjoy the sunny San Diego weather, even if it was only 68 degrees or so and felt “cold” to us.

We visited the local beaches several times, including the dog beach. We don’t like to sit on the beach in the “winter,” but we went for lots of walks along the water. We also ate at several of our favorite local restaurants like The Fish Market in Del Mar and the Thai restaurant Bangkok Bay in Solana Beach.

Here are a couple of pics from their trip.

Ace was very happy to have his “grandparents” here for a week. He and I were sad when we dropped them off at the airport to go home again. My mom took tons more pictures than I did, so once she has her pics organized I might do another post with better pics. 🙂

Our foster dog Lana

About three weeks ago I took in a young Lab mix named Robin who we are calling Lana. She is up for adoption with a rescue group called Labs & More in San Diego.

The organization rescues Labs, Lab mixes and other large dogs like boxers and shepherds from high-kill shelters in our region. I originally signed up to foster senior dogs since they are generally easier, but I decided to take a chance on Lana because she looks a lot like Ace. I couldn’t resist.

Here she is:

It turns out Lana is a very nice dog, although she also brings chaos to our otherwise calm living environment. She’s about 9 months old and full of energy. We thought about adopting her and discussed it extensively but ultimately decided she would be better off elsewhere. She’s too much puppy for all of us. None of my pets like her, and I’m exhausted!

Lana is meeting a potential adopter on Sunday, and I expect it to go well. Wish her (and me) luck! Update: Lana was adopted!

On the blog

Here are the blog posts I’m most proud of from the month:

How can I provide my dog enough exercise AND stop her from pulling?

Ever wish people would give your reactive dog more space?

Do you keep adopting the same “type” of dog?

We also have a giveaway going on right now where two readers will win a subscription box for dogs from a company called Surprise My Pet.

Plus, I’ve started a weekly challenge to encourage people to get out and about with their dogs. It’s called #ActiveMutts, and you can read about the current challenge here.

That’s about it! Who’s ready for “House of Cards” this weekend?

I’m excited to just sit back with my husband Josh and watch like four episodes tonight.

What have the rest of you been up to lately? Is it still winter where you are?

I hope you will also sign up for That Mutt’s newsletter here. You will receive an email about 3 times per month.

Have a good weekend!
