Note: That Mutt and DogNation.net have partnered to bring you this post.

Voting is taking place now to select the “best” U.S. rescue or shelter to win $500 in the “Best Friend’s Friend” Contest.

Click here to vote every day.

It takes just 5 seconds to vote.

All the shelters and rescues you see listed were nominated at the end of 2015.

To vote, all you have to do is head over to Dog Nation and click “Vote for Me!” under the image next to the rescue you choose. Note that there are 5 pages of listings and shelters are organized by state.

You can vote up to once per day now through Feb. 29. You don’t have to vote for the same group every time, and anyone can vote.

I don’t know about you, but I’m always wondering what else I can do to help dogs in need, and this is one easy way to help. $500 can make a big difference!

Ask your friends to vote by sharing this post.

Prizes – $900 in donations total – three winners

Here’s a little more info on the contest’s prizes:

Best Friend's Friend Contest medalFirst place: A $500 donation to the shelter or rescue.

Second place: $300 donation.

Third place: $100 donation.

Dog Nation will make all donations in the name of the person who originally nominated the shelter or rescue, which I think is pretty cool.

All three shelters/rescues that win will also receive a permanent link to their websites from DogNation.net and a digital gold, silver or bronze medal to display on their sites like the one above.

The winners will be announced in early March on DogNation.net and here on this post.

More about the Best Friend’s Friend Contest

The Best Friend’s Friend Contest is a contest where you can win a $500 donation for your favorite rescue group or shelter. The winners will be chosen based on votes. Click here to vote.

The contest was created by Rodney Blow, owner of the dog information website DogNation.net.

[quote_right]Rodney said he plans to continue to donate at least 10 percent of his website’s proceeds to go towards this contest each year.[/quote_right]He and his wife have three rescue dogs – Roxy, Sunshine and Rebel – and are dedicated to helping other dogs in need. This is the contest’s second year.

Rodney said he plans to continue to donate at least 10 percent of his website’s proceeds to go towards this contest each year, and he hopes the amount he’s able to donate will grow.

The contest is set up to allow his readers and dog lovers to nominate the organizations they believe are the most deserving of a donation.

If you didn’t get a chance to nominate your favorite group, remember, this is an annual contest so you’ll have another opportunity next year.

Who to vote for?

If you don’t see your favorite rescue group on the list, I suggest you vote for a rescue in your state or the one closest to where you live. I like to donate locally when I can.

If you nominated an organization, make sure to remind the group about the voting so it can share about the contest on its Facebook and Twitter pages.

I am so sorry there was a delay in making these announcements. I had a serious illness in the family, and failed to bring my laptop with me. But all is well now, and I am back in North Carolina (where I work).

Anyway, here are the results of the second annual Best Friend's Friend Contest:

1st place goes to The Sighthound Underground, located in McLean, VA. $500 was donated via paypal in the name of the nominator, Wendy Scarborough.

2nd place, receiving $300, is Friends of Homeless Animals, in Providence, RI. Thanks to Kimberley Paderson for the nomination.

3rd place and $100 goes to Great Lakes Boxer Rescue in Lake Ann, MI, nominated by Lisa Michelle.

Congratulations to all of our winners, and a deep thankyou to all who nominated and voted for this years contest.

Utah Humane Society Their Salt Lake City shelter has been no-kill for several years. They also accept all dogs, cats and rabbits, mice, rats, hamsters, parakeets, etc. All dogs that can be adopted are, over 97% of all dogs. Outdoor grassy areas are used daily by most dogs. Volunteers and potential adopters walk the dogs. UHS hopes to achieve no-kill for cats this year. Their shelter has cat rooms with large climbing structures and a limited number of cats in each room. Dogs and cats can come home for a trial week. Their employees and volunteers are compassionate, helpful and amazing. They have a clinic for low cost neutering and innoculations. All cats and dogs are neutered before adoption. Their shop sells qaulity collars, leashes and toys at reasonable prices. This is a fun place to find a companion animal, and our family and friends use it as the first place to look.
