It’s frustrating when your dog is prone to ongoing health issues like itchy skin, ear infections or digestive troubles.

It may feel like you’re at the vet every other month (paying $200 a visit) only to end up right back where you started!

Last year was a struggle for my senior dog Ace. We were at the vet for an ear infection in March, an eye infection in April, “hot spots” in July and ongoing treatment for a puzzling, non-healing wound.

Itchy skin and ears are so common for dogs, and I know many of you can relate.

It’s really frustrating trying to get to the bottom of these symptoms. Ace even has his own doggy dermatologist now who’s helping us sort through all of this!

One thing I’ve learned is it’s important to look at the big picture and to help your dog’s immune system be as strong as it can be.

Recently, I partnered with PetVi, a dog nutritional and digestive supplement company dedicated to helping dogs overcome issues related to itchy skin and digestive disorders.

More about PetVi’s supplements for pets

PetVi is a company that provides nutritional and digestive supplements for dogs AND cats. My two cats have had the opportunity to try some of PetVi’s products right along side their brother Ace.

PetVi’s products are designed to help a pet maintain good health by naturally replacing many of the vitamins, minerals and enzymes cooked out of manufactured pet food (kibble).

This isn’t to say that dry dog food is bad. It’s just that our pets miss out on certain vitamins and enzymes when they don’t eat enough fresh food. It’s not rocket science. And for those of you who feed a raw diet, believe me I understand the peace of mind that comes with adding a few extra supplements to your recipes.

PetVi’s supplements can be added to dry pet food, canned pet food, homecooked pet foods or raw pet foods. And according to the company, the ingredients are all natural.

PetVi makes supplements for cats

PetVi said its most popular product is its original digestive health supplement. This is available for both dogs and cats.

PetVi’s digestive health supplement can help with:

  • Restoring and maintaining gut health
  • Decreasing a pet’s itchy skin & excess shedding
  • Decreasing digestive problems
  • Strengthening the immune system

PetVi’s digestive health supplement is a source of dietary fibers, digestive enzymes, omega-3 fatty acid and probiotics. The main ingredient is suncured alfalfa meal.

Alfalfa is a “super food” that contains fiber and vitamins A, E, U, B6, K and D, according to PetVi. It also contains essential enzymes.

PetVi Review – Is it helping Ace?

I just started adding the dietary supplement to Ace’s food two weeks ago, and I feel hopeful it will work to boost his immune system. It’s really too soon to tell, but I will write a post next month with more details.

For those of you who would like to try this product for your dogs along with Ace, enter the giveaway below or buy the supplement here. I’ll include your feedback in my next post. PetVi and I are hoping this product can help as many of my readers as possible.

As with any change in diet, remember it can take some time to notice any changes and new supplements should always be introduced slowly.

  1. Awesome post!

Fortunate that we have no extreme issues with our current dogs digestive system and itchy skin. Growing up I had a beagle with extreme issues and the answer was always more medication that ultimately caused other issues that lead to an early death.

So glad there are more products for dogs overall health and I will absolutely be checking this product out!

Thank you again for an informative post!

  2. My beagle Frodo suffers from tons of allergies, both environmental and in his food. He’s constantly scratching and seems miserable! He also gets chronic ear infections that have ended up costing so much money at the vet. And, we have switched to expensive food. But, he’s still scratching and biting his paws from allergies all the time. I would love to try these supplements/products to see if they could help my little bugger feel better in any way!

  3. How have I missed this line?! Sounds really good. Definitely will need to check in to it. Count me in, I would love to try it. Our Rattie’s are our issue kids… One w/skin itches & the other w/sensitive gastro.

  4. Maron Gibbons

My Yorkie scratches and licks so much that we’ve nicknamed him the Picker-Licker! We have all of our dogs on extremely good food. Always have, but anything we try to do for him does not help: grain-free food, probiotics, prescription and over the counter meds, etc. We’re at our wits’ end. I know he’s so frustrated, as well.

  5. This looks like a great product. My dog has sensitive skin and licks his bum a lot after a grooming. I switched to sensitive skin products that have helped.

  6. Jean Patterson

I have tried everything on the market, even the vet’s medicine has not worked. We have spent hundreds of dollars trying to find something to stop the hotspots. Changed food so many times I really don’t remember what foods we changed from or to so we ended up making a list! How can I be sure this will work? Our babies are just that our babies and we hate seeing them suffer! I have tried special shampoo, special conditioners, ointments, even food supplements. I have even ground up oats, rice. Nothing is working….

They do offer a money back guarantee. Of course, it can’t help every dog but it’s worth trying.

  7. Thank you do much for including Canadian residents!
I’d be interested to try as my Dane has several food sensitivity issues and itchy skin- so I’m always on the lookout for different products.

  8. Malley Heinlein

We would love to try a new approach to the seasonal allergy problem. One of my two dogs has had severe skin problems in the summer months, while the other has eye and skin issues in the early spring and the winter. Since we do dog sports, it really interferes with our training and performance.

  9. I rescued a big male greyhound, he’s been abused, I named him Cesar.
Cesar being an ex racer, has scars, his coat was not shiny he has dry skin &
he scratches but not a lot, and the hair on his butt between his long tail is thinning.A greyhound is sooo different(I have had many dogs, and I recearched my butt off learning how to be the best I could. I will only feed him good products made in USA. I feed him Fromm lamb & lentils kibble along with Fromm chicken canned. It would be wonderful if this product works where I don’t have to add a joint enhancer, wild Alaskan Salmon oil to his food, I would still add pumpkin a few times a week!!! I would love any advice anyone has out their on greyhounds. Where Cesar can stay happy & healthy for many years to come!!!

  10. This sounds fabulous! I have tried all manner of remedies for B’s itchy skin, ears, muzzle. Currently he is on 2 Benadryl a day and 3 fish oil gels, but I would love to come at it from a digestive health point as well. Please enter me in the drawing and I will be checking out these products!

  11. We have two dogs that have terribly itchy skin. Sometimes it even interferes with their sleep. They have to take prescription allergy medicine which helps a little. Would love to try this product and help our fur babies!

  12. I would love to try this for my Daughter in Law’s dog, the poor girl is actually going bald from scratching, I’ve tried getting her to switch to a grain free food, but unfortunately with her budget she isn’t able to do that. But when I’m “baby sitting” the dog that’s all she is fed at my house, I’ve taken her to the vet, he prescribed a $20 bottle of Itch relief shampoo, which hasn’t helped, I’ve used Anti Itch shampoo and conditioner on her from Drs Foster and Smith. We just can’t find anything to work. it started out as just slight balding that started at the base of her tail and went partway down just on the top side, It looked like someone shaved the fur off her tail, but now it’s her entire tail, her legs, inside and out, half way up her back and down her sides. Just looks like some one took a pair of electric razors to her and shaved parts of her fur off , you can just look at her and see she is miserable! she doesn’t want to play any more, she just wants to lay around and attempt to sleep when she’s not either digging at her self, or rubbing herself raw on the furniture :/ :'(

  13. This sounds interesting. I’ll have to try! I’ve recently started researching supplements to keep my older dog and cat healthy, and to help my puppy lab mix with his itchy skin.

  14. I would love to try it. My dog Carson (black lab/Shepherd mix licks his feet all the time and will not let me touch his feet. Would love to try something new to see if it would help him.

  15. Nala and Codyvwould live to try PetVi supplement. Both of them are russell terriers and have itchy skin at times they eat limited ingredient dry and either homemade or freeze dried raw as a topper so who knows what their allergies are but would love to try anything that might help them.

  16. My male border collie, Tip, is currently on 2 antibiotics and probiotics for some type of bacterial infection that was causing diarrhea. He’s had problems with intestinal issues ever since he started on phenobarbital. I would love to try this to see if it helps his digestive issues. He also has problems with itchy skin on his hips and gets really irritated.

  17. Michelle Bennett

Our poor dog BLU suffers from itchy skin (hot spots) always biting his poor feet and has a hard time with food, major digestive iuuese. I am hoping something like these supplements could help him.

  18. Sandy Weinstein

i would love to try this new product. i read the ingredient list and it looked great. nothing that i would not give my dogs. lots of good pro and prebiotics, along with some other ingredients, the only one i have some concern with the the active dry yeast, which sometimes causes my girls feathers to turn brown. my oldest has skin issues, but it is probably her age, she is almost 15 yrs old. she get the little bumps, cyst like, and has many of them. the youngest does get some dry skin every now and them. the middle child is fine, she has an iron stomach which her daddy had, he hardly ever got sick. the baby get upset tummies quite often, for no reason, one day she will eat everything and the next decides she does not like her food. she does get some flaky of skin around her face when i clip her though.

  19. Allison Hoffman

If i won this i would give it to my friend’s dog, Pinky. Pinky is a white pitty with bad allergies and when she has an allergic reaction she gets so itchy and she turns pink. its sad. She could really use this!!

  20. Zeus has a bald left flank ( underside mainly) from itchy licking and biting.. He is on a grain free diet. And no chicken in anything. Still biting and licking. But his ears are yeast free …. finally!! Now if I can just help him grow some fur back on his leg.

  21. Stacey raymond

My poor pup has spent 8 years trying every drug and special diet to relieve her of her itch! We have things down to a dull roar with Apoquel and a raw diet. Always on the look out for something that works better!

  23. Kdo has itchy skin and ear infections. They have plagued him all his life. My vet never recommend anything except very expensive meds from his office. I would love to give this a try.

  24. i just spent 200$ at the vet to put my magic on antibotics and steroids for his itching, this has been since he was a puppy, he is 5yrs old now, I would really like a sample of this before I buy a 30day supply, if it works I will buy it for life, he is a pitbull and he was inbred so his immune system was compromised, please send me a sample and I will be a customer forever if this works
