Saturday was day 18 of my 30-day challenge to walk Ace every day. He has been doing a lot better this week. I have been walking him for about 10 minutes, then he runs off-leash before walking 10 more minutes. I use bits of cheese as a reward for good heeling. He has been sitting well and really watching me to see what to do. It makes a difference when I act really excited and really get into what we’re doing. When I start to get bored, he is bored too. I have to take a break from my challenge, because I am in California on vacation. Ace is staying with my parents in Wisconsin. He gets to run and play in a big yard all week with two other dogs! Lucky Ace.

Good luck with your challenge. It is amazing what consistency can do to improve training and a happy pooch. Have fun on vacation and keep up the great work!
I also recommend using an “outside-only” toy that dogs only get when they are walking nicely outside. Put it away when you get inside and it will stay more interesting and novel.

That is so great! We don’t walk our dogs enough. I did take Trooper out today for two laps around the neighborhood. It was almost more training than walk though. He is a bad heeler and gets distracted easily - especially by dogs and kids. And he can pull me off my feet. I hate “choking” him though when he pulls - he doesn’t care how hard he pulls. But he did fairly good today. And I made him think and work so he was tired when we got back.
Yay! A tired dog is a good dog.
