Always keep 101 goals

A few months ago, my boyfriend and I each decided to write lists of 101 personal goals. I have not always been good at writing goals, or even thinking about them. But sitting down and coming up with 101 goals was a good way for me to think about all areas of my life.

I recommend you give it a try. Just take a half-hour, sit down and write any goals that come to mind. It was easy for me to come up with the first 30 or so, but after that I had to really think about them. In the end, I had a jumble of 101 goals. Then I put them into categories and printed them out. They now hang on my wall by my desk so I can’t avoid them.

When I wrote these goals, I decided to have a given amount of time in mind for accomplishing them. I went with three years. So I have three years to complete all these goals. Of course, my goals will change in that amount of time, but it gives me something to shoot for. Even since December, I have revised my goals, crossing off one and adding another as I accomplish them.

Here are the categories I had in the end, with about 6 goals in each category: Health and fitness, travel, adventure, hobbies, financial, home, personal, volunteering, reading, writing, editing, work, pets, relationship, family/friends and more stuff to buy.

wow neato! thats a very good idea! I’ve been thinking about putting together a vision board of wishlist stuff (a bigger house, baby, cinderella suite at disneyworld). Sounds like the goal list and vision board could go side by side!

I like it! I usually only have one major goal that I work toward with a deadline and then small goals here and there. I think I’m going to give your 101 suggestion a shot!

Great post (liked the one before it about what Ace has taught you, too).

Coincidentally, A.J. and I start beginner agility tomorrow! Should be neat working a 100 lb lab through an obstacle course. I’ll let you know how it goes.
